FCFP announces grants to 25 regional nonprofits

Williamsport, Pa. – First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania (FCFP) has approved $324,300 in grants to 25 area nonprofits through its competitive grant program. The grants support initiatives that benefit residents of Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties.

Eligible non-profit organizations were invited to apply for grants to support projects that promote arts and culture; education; health and human services; environmental protection; and economic development. Members and staff on FCFP’s Regional Advisory Committee evaluate each application to determine service area, population served, sustainability, community support, demonstrated need and whether the project aligns with the purpose of the grants.

This year’s beneficiaries include:

A&B children’s theater: $5,000: “The Nutcracker” event included, where individuals of different abilities weave into the performance.

American Rescue Workers, Inc.: $15,000: Fresh Start Program, a long-term rehabilitation program for homeless men. The scholarship will support monetary assistance to obtain an ID, clothing, transportation, and a graduation stipend.

Montgomery County: $14,875: ADA-accessible playground and interactive music stations in Montgomery Park, making a truly inclusive space for all community members.

Camp Koala: $10,000: Eight 6-week grief support groups for children, facilitated both in schools and at the Miller Center in partnership with Hospice of Evangelical.

Outreach partners for child hunger: $15,000: Continuation of school-based backpack and cage programs at Williamsport Middle School, Williamsport High School, BlaST IU17 Academy South Campus Williamsport and Muncy Junior/Senior High School and expansion at Curtin Intermediate School in Williamsport.

Lycoming County: $15,000: Protective body armor and ball shields for the Narcotics Control Unit, replacing equipment that will reach the end of its useful life in February 2025.

Danville Area Community Center: $25,000: Facility expansion and renovations to create space for 24 children ages 3-5, to provide childcare and preschool services.

Girls on the Run Mid State PA: $20,405: An evidence-based, positive youth development program that enhances girls’ social, psychological, and physical health and behaviors to navigate life experiences.

James V. Brown Library: $12,450: Bilingual Story Walk at Young’s Woods Park, an activity and literacy project that places a bilingual illustrated children’s book, illustrated page by page, in a community garden to facilitate family reading engagement while promoting outdoor activities.

Lairdsville Community Volunteer Fire Company: $9,275: A full set of life-saving cordless, hydraulically operated extrication tools for extricating victims in a compressed vehicle.

Lycoming County Library System: $11,025: StoryWalk at Trout Run Park, a movement and literacy project that places an illustrated children’s book, illustrated page by page, in a community park to facilitate family reading and promote outdoor activities.

Lycoming-Clinton Joint Administration: $15,000: A speaking engagement with Chief Justice Broderick, whose story will shed light on the stigma of mental illness, create awareness and work to improve access to services; “Bridges Out of Poverty” workshop for Joinder employees and community partners that creates understanding, skills, awareness and motivation to build a more sustainable society.

The Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Company: $14,945: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Stop-the-Bleed kits for fire and EMS vehicles.

Pennsylvania College of Technology Community Arts Center: $15,000: A decorative arts restoration project for the historic 1928 structure requiring skilled professional restoration specialists to ensure the architectural integrity and unique decorative elements of the performance facility.

Presidential life of senior citizens: $6,050: Updated laundry facilities for residents at the Presbyterian Home in Williamsport, a 26-unit personal care community that offers housing, health care and other services for seniors.

Regional Engagement Center: $20,000: Year-round after-school program that provides a safe, supervised facility with free snacks, homework help and recreation for families.

Ronald McDonald House of Danville, Inc.: $5,000: Sponsors the Share-A-Night Program for parents and families of children hospitalized or receiving outpatient care for cancer and other serious illnesses.

Susquehanna Valley CASA – Voices for Children: $5,800: Volunteer and Communication Portal – enhanced technology for volunteers, staff and board if board members get virtual access to educational offerings, tools, resources and peer support.

Salvation Army Bloomsburg Service Center: $10,000: Emergency Financial Assistance, provides rent and utility assistance to households in need.

The New Love Center: $15,000: Renovation of a recently purchased warehouse on the Clinton/Lycoming County border, to safely store food and increase capacity to distribute nutritious food to the food insecure community.

Transition PA: $15,000: Individual therapy sessions for victims of domestic and sexual violence.

Union County Donation Cupboard: $5,000: Children’s clothing to fulfill requests from families registered with the Union County Food Bank.

Unity Collaborative Non-Profit Corporation: $14,475: Teen Mothers Milk Project which equips young mothers with resources to provide breast milk for their babies in the first twelve months, focusing on breastfeeding and support.

West Branch Arts Consortium: $15,000: Performing Arts Literacy In-home performances with student guides to develop aesthetic understanding, historical perspective and critical examination of arts programming for the Jersey Shore Area, Loyalsock Township and Muncy School Districts.

Williamsport Independent Media, Inc.: $15,000: WXPI Community Radio 97.1 antenna location on the smokestack at the Pajama Factory in Williamsport, which will improve signal coverage to reach the majority of listeners in Lycoming County.
